This evening, with only 9 rows left to complete the backing of the Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt, I decided to piece all of the remaining 68 4-pacthes needed to finish. All I have to do now is to piece each of the 9 rows and put the whole thing together. I got the drudge work done tonight, so the rest of the project should go smoothly! Maybe this weekend?????

I couldn't just quit for the night!

After I got done piecing 4 rows for the Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt, I couldn't just quit for the night without making a Hobo Sign block! So, before going to bed, I did make a quick block : )

Over half way done!

Yesterday was very productive! I completed 4 more rows for the backing of the Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt!!! I have 10 rows done and only 9 more to go. It has been like making a whole other quilt... I hope to be DONE piecing this back in 2 weeks time. Wish me luck! haha...

I was able to get 4 Hobo Sign blocks done today! They are sooooo much fun to make. I think that is because they are all different and I can be creative with the fabric choices : )

2 Down...

I didn't feel like I got a lot done today, but I did get the second block for the Solstice Stars Series done.
This weeks block is called Whirling Star.

This block was paper pieced. I don't know how or why, but it's a little small, doesn't quite measure 12-1/2" square : ( I may just do a white border all the way around the block. I have the worst trouble with paper pieced blocks and can't figure it out. The are NEVER the size they need to be. I will make it right and I feel when I get this all together, nobody will be able to figure it out : )

Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt

I have the directions for this weeks installation of the Solstice Stars Series, Whirling Star, so I want to get that done. This is a paper pieced block, so it should go together fairly quickly.

I will also be starting the Civil War block series that was posted throughout the year last year. I am REALLY looking forward to starting work on this project!! I don't know why, or what I will do with the quilt once I am done, but I will enjoy it nonetheless : )

I have a couple other special projects I hope to get accomplished this year! It will be interesting to see how my quilting year plays out.

I took some time tonight to finish another block for the Hobo Sign Quilt.

Hobo Sign Quilt...

I don't know what possessed me today, but I got started on the Hobo Sign Quilt that I have been wanting to make! Each block will finish 6" square. The book, Hobo Quilts, contains patterns for 60 blocks. Not sure how many I will make, but I would love to make them all.

I was not aware that hobos had their own "written" language until I had seen hobo quilt blocks on some blogs that I was reading. I instantly became very interested in finding out more on the subject.

Craftsy BOM...

Today I made the January blocks from the Craftsy Block of the Month Quilt Along I decided to join. I am using the Austrailian prints I purchased a few months ago. I think they will make a nice quilt.

The January blocks are the Asterisk and the Wonky Pound Sign:

I am happy with the way they came out! I also can't believe that I didn't leave the blocks until the last minute!!

Now I am off to continue my work on the Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt...

Solstice Stars Series...

Ok... I decided to join another quilt along, in addition to the Craftsy Block of the Month. This one is hosted by Faith at Fresh Lemons. It is only a six week undertaking and will result in six 12-1/2" blocks, which should make a nice wall hanging. I found a bag of lime green and grey fabric that I thought might work well for this, so I made this week's block, Ribbon Star.

Piecing my backing...

Ok... Now that the holidays are over and I am back from Seattle and celebrating my grandson's 1st birthday, I can get back to my quilting!!

I spent last weekend reorganizing my space and it is working A LOT better now : )

I have decided that the first order of business would be to get the backing finished for the Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt.

I decided to use 6-1/2" squares and make 4-patch blocks using 3-1/2" squares. I used the batiks that I used for the front side of the quilt. As you can see, I did a lot of cutting. I figured I needed 285 6-1/2" blocks... So... I cut 600 small and 150 large squares.

I figured I need 19 rows of 15 blocks, and today I got 2 rows done!!

I am trying to be random, but I am really struggling with that!! So, I am handpicking all the pieces while trying to make it LOOK random. That is as good as it gets : )

Making my shopping list...

Now that I think I am FINALLY recovered from the holidays, I need to get back into my quilt room! I am going to get jumpstarted by working on the Tokyo Supway Map Quilt. This is a quilt I fell in love with as soon as I first saw it on the internet. Elizabeth, at Oh, Fransson!, was kind enough to post the tutorial on her blog. This quilt is composed of 1600 2" squares, oy!

So, to that end, this morning I will go through my fabric stash before going to my local quilt shop, which is having a sale on all their fabrics today!! This subway quilt is composed of subway lines using 10 colors with varying shades of solids and prints for each color. Wish me luck!

This weekend I also hope to finish cutting the squares for the backing of the Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt. I am about half way done, so need to get that done, so I can get them all sewed together.

Getting ready to sign out for 2011...

WELL... What a past few weeks... I knew I had to get my Christmas gifts purchased/done, wrapped and sent out before my daughter and her family arrived to spend the holidays with us. I didn't want to waste precious time dealing with all that while they were here. They were here for 2 weeks, so we a lot of activity going on, which we really aren't used to : ) We had a great time and was sad to them leave this morning...

This photo was taken last night, while I still had the tree up. I did get the decorations taken down as my youngest grandson decided to get started by taking the ornaments from the tree.

On a quilting note... I can show the gift I made for my brother. I made him a banner that he can hang on his back porch along his pool.

These flags spell our last name F-R-A-I-L-I-N-G. I thought it would be a one of a kind gift that I could make for him. Okay... I just noticed that the first 2 flags are switched, but you get the idea. The hardest part of this whole process was adding the grommets. I had to recruit my husband to help me with that task. I got the holes clipped and he finished the rest. Thanks Brian!

There was one gift I did not get finished, so that will become a birthday present in this upcoming year : ) I have ideas forming in my mind for new quilt projects for this upcoming year... We'll have to see what the year brings.

2011 Gingerbread House

I am still working away on Christmas, but in the meantime, I did make my fist Gingerbread House:

I found that this wasn't as difficult as I first imagined, so I think I will make one again next year. I think next year I will do some research on ways to decorate. I am pleased though and I think the grandsons will like it! Isn't that the most important thing anyway???

Shopping List Holder

I finished another Christmas gift this morning : ) I have one more to finish, then 4 Christmas stockings to make. BUT... I was on Pinterest the other day and came across this Holiday Shopping List Holder. I fell in love with it and had to make one, so I did:

I am sooo pleased with how it came out. Folded, it measures about 5x7. It holds a 4x6 pad of paper, which I didn't have and will have to get. Inside has 2 pockets, one for your notepad and an extra one on the other side. It has a half pocket for coupons and the like, and also a slot for your pen. It calls for a 1" button, which I feel is too big, so the next one will have about a 3/4" button instead. It would also be nice to do some embroidery on the front (top). I will definately have to make more : )

Happy Birthday, Jennifer!

Today is my daughter's birthday, so I made her a gift that she can use during the Christmas season. She got the gift yesterday, so I can now post Christmas Countdown wall hanging I made for her:

TOP DONE!!!!

After 3-1/2 months of work, I finally got the top done for the Miss South Dakita Crown Quilt : ) Yesterday I sashed the remaining 5 rows and pieced all the rows together. I had some time, so thought I would get started on the borders. It got late, but I decided to just get the borders finished.

This isn't the best of pictures, but I had to have my husband stand on a step stool and his armspan is barely enough to stretch out the whole width of the top. He also had to go up all the way to the ceiling, and it's still puddling a little on the floor. It is much more impressive in person!

For the back I will piece together 6-1/2" squares and 4-patches that finish to 6-1/2". I decided to use the fabrics from the top on the back. I will bind it all with the black "leading" I used in the blocks and the sashing.

I had a bit of a slow week. Taking some time off. BUT... I did get the Army Skulls quilt pieced and quilted. I also got 2 of 7 rows of the Miss South Dakota Crown quilt sashed. My goal for this week is to bind the 2 quilts listed above and finish sashing the crown quilt.

I found a the Mardi Gras wallhanging that I pieced a few years ago. I used a pattern found in the book "Convergence Quilts: Mysterious, Magical, Easy, and Fun" by Ricky Tims. It was a lot of fun to make and now just needs to be finished. Here is a photo of the front and back of the wallhanging:

Yesterday I finished Nikolas' Army Skulls quilt top. I also got the back pieced! I used every bit of available fabric. All I have left is enough for binding once I have finished the quilting.

This week I got all 35 blocks finished for the Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt!!! I decided to take a little breather from that project, but I hope that by this time next week, I will have the blocks all assembled.

I decided to make a fabric change in Nikolas' Army Skulls quilt. I had a great fabric with words, but when it was all cut up, it all got lost : ( I will use it on the back instead, that way the full effect of the fabric will be felt. Digging through my stash, I found an olive green that will work. I got all the pieces I needed cut last night. All I need to do now is "unsew" the 10 blocks I pieced already, and repiece them using the new fabric.

I got ambitious tonight and made a Halloween mug rug. I got out my graph paper and started doodling and came up with a plan...

All in all, a productive week, with plans for another!

Hobo Quilts

It wasn't until a few months ago I found out that hobos, from back in the day, had their own secret language. They were drawings that gave "direction and advice" to those riding the rails. I found this just fascinating!! Then I found there was a book of quilt patterns based on that secret language, "Hobo Quilts."

The book arrived today, and I have soooo enjoyed going through the history and meaning of the signs for this language. Needless to say, there will be a quilt made...

I've jumped on the Mug Rug band wagon...

Ok, this was the easiest thing I think I have ever made! From start to finish, it took between 60-90 minutes. It measures 6 x 9. I just made a 9-patch from 2-1/2" blocks of fabric then attached to a rectangle that measured 3-1/2" x 6-1/2". I plan on making many more : )

Finish it up Friday #1

I've had a productive week! I finished the Bali Sampler, I only have 3 blocks left of the Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt, and I started Nikolas' Army Sculls Quilt. I also dug around and found a couple more project that I am close to having done. One of them is the Scrappy Charity Quilt and the other is Buffalo Gap Wall Hanging. I think that is it for the completed tops that I have laying around : )

My goals for this week are to finish the crown blocks and possibly start the sashing process, finish hand quilting and bind the cabin wall hanging, and at least get the scrappy quilt quilted. Very ambitious I know, but I feel a bit driven at this point.

As I look into my crystal ball, I see a Morse Code quilt and QR Code quilt in my future : ) A lot of thought and prep work needs to happen before I get started on those. I also want to work on a denim quilt and a t-shirt quilt. So many possiblities : )

Bali Sampler Finished...

I stayed up until 12:30 this morning finishing the binding on the Bali Sampler! I am really pleased with the outcome : )

When making the binding for this quilt top, I tried a technique I had seen on another blog. I cannot remember where I saw this tip, so I won't be able to tag them : ( When I saw it, I was a skeptic, but thought it wouldn't hurt to try. You just pin your ironing board the width you want your binding, pull it through and iron it while coming out the other side. It worked!! I got it done a lot quicker and it saved my fingers from the heat of the iron.

EQ Block of the Month

This month I decided to submit a block in the EQ Block of the Month Challenge. I was going to submit a block last month, but the month totally got away from me then I found the month was over. This month I decided not to put it off, so I put a block together this evening.

I decided to go with a "Halloween" themed block, being that this is October : )

Free Motion Quilting...

Well... My first time at free motion quilting with an actual project. After watching about a dozen YouTube videos and practicing with some "sandwiches," I dove in with both feet.

My backing for this quilt is soooooo different than the front, that I decided to go with an invisible thread. I really think it was the only way to go.

Through the course of the afternoon, I lost my way a little on the quilting, but once it got all done, you'd really have to look at it closely to find the less than perfect stitching.

There were some key points I learned watching the videos, and boy were they spot on! It's very important to stay relaxed and not get tense. I had to stop many times and take a breath and just loosen up : ) The other thing was to try and move your quilt around at a consistant speed. It makes a huge difference in your stitch length. So needless to say, I have varying stitch lengths throught the quilting of this project. I did find that the more I worked on it, the more comfortable I became with the process!!

I didn't think I had a productive week last week, but as I look back, I think I may have... I finished the applique work on the African Safari lap quilt, made the Broncos charity quilt and made 4 more blocks for the Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt. Tonight I will tack down the binding on Turning Twenty with a Twist. I got the binding sewed on and pinned down last night. After I am done with that, I will get the Bali Sampler bound. My goal is to be done piecing the blocks for the crown quilt by November 1.

I will be sending the charity quilts to Glenda for quilting. She wanted to get some more practice using her quiting machine. Thanks, Glenda!!

I want to finish quilting one more before I start a new project : )

505 Fabric Adhesive Spray

On my newly quilted Venetian Piazza, I tried a new product. Well, new to me... While surfing on the net, I found that a lot of quilters use 505 Fabric Adhesive. So, the last time I was in my local quilt shop, I found that they carried this product. I purchased a can and used it on this project. It was GREAT!! No need to pin : ) I highly suggest this product to you all.

Finished!!

This evening as I was washing and drying a couple pieces of fabric, I thought I would at least get started quilting the wall hanging Venetian Piazza. Well, I ended up getting all the quilting done. I also managed to get it bound.

Along the seams of the outside border, I used a decorative stitch. I am really pleased with the end result.

I think this week I will work on my MSD Crown Quilt blocks and also get some quilting done on finished tops. Glenda asked me to send some charity quilts to her so that she can get some practice in on her machine quilter. I will wait to get one more done, which I have cut out already.

I will be practicing a new technique this week, which I want to use on the growth chart, stippling... I have been watching videos on YouTube to get a feel for the process. So I have several quilt sandwiches ready for practicing. Wish me luck : )

Great new quilt idea!!!

I found someone had made a quilt using a QR Code!! It looked AWESOME!! Now I HAVE to try this!!! You can generate your own QR Code using your website, phone number or text. I generated a code using my blog url. Here it is:

I had the African Safari Quilt in on my to be quilted list, until I pulled it out and realized I needed to finish the applique work the quilt top. I have never done applique work with my machine, so I figured it was time to learn. I found the Suspended Planets baby quilt top which also needed applique work. I thought I would use the planets quilt top as practice. I got that done and am now knee deep in the applique work on the safari quilt top. I am branching out and learning so many techniques : )

I am running out of time and have to get to work, so will post the 20 finished blocks of the Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt tonight.

A sprint to the finish...

Yesterday I felt great because I accomplished my goal of getting my Bali Sampler all sashed : ) I woke up this morning and my mind was working on high speed as I was planning my day. Then I thought I would take the day and make a wall hanging for a friend of mine. In about 2 hours time I saw that I was done with the top! I purchased this kit while in Denver last spring for a mini quilt shop hop with my friend, Glenda. I am calling it Venetian Piazza:

Once I got done with this I was looking at my Bali Sampler on my design wall. I thought why not finish by preparing a backing for this project... I didn't have enough white, and needless to say I didn't have enough of the fabrics used in the top, so I realized I had to piece the back. It was like taking a math class, but I muddled through it and got it done! I have it all ironed and ready to take in for quilting : )

I am hoping I have enough fabrics for the binding. If not, I will come up with a plan B.

Bali Sampler

I have renamed my Summer Sampler Series to Bali Sampler. I did manage to get all the blocks sewn together with the sashing strips. I am now debating whether or not to put a colorful border around the quilt top. I am going to look to see what others have done with theirs. Take a peek at flickr...

Where I have my design wall doesn't leave me enough room to back up and take a photo of a full quilt top, so I had to contort myself to try and get this done. I am pleased with the layout. It took a lot of placing blocks, staring at the layout, changing blocks around, staring at the layout again, etc... Also, with so many techniques used in these blocks, they ended up being VERY ununiform in size!!! Soooo... There was a lot of fudging going on, but I am very happy with the end result!

I don't have a game plan for the weekend, but I am sure a lot of piecing will go on : ) We'll have to see how it all works out.

Let the sashing begin...

So... As I am looking at this weeks WiP report, I am thinking to myself, "why am I not sashing my blocks from the Summer Samper Series?" I really didn't have an answer to that question, so tonight when I got finished with a list of non-quilting items that I needed to get done, I went downstairs and began work sashing my blocks. I did manage to get one row done and get started on my second. I have to admit, I like the look : ) My goal is to have it done by the weekend, we'll see...

Making more of a dent in my WiPs...

Since my last WiP report, I have been busy : ) I finished quilting 2 36-Patch lap quilts and got the binding sewed onto the quilts. All I have to do is tack the binding onto the backs.

I also have the Turning Twenty with a Twist quilt done ready to go to the quilt shop for quilting. I decided to make it a little bigger, so I added a final border onto the top and the backing.

I think tomorrow, since I have the day off (YAY!!), I will dedicate the day to working on more blocks for the Miss South Dakota Crown quilt.

As you can see, I am still plugging along on the MSD Crown blocks. I need 35 and have 16 done. So I am almost halfway there. I just continue to plug along.

This last week I also finished the 36-Patch block to make 2 lap quilts.

These 2 lap quilts will be donated to the Black Hills Foster Care Program. I ran out of thread last night, so had to quit, but will continue again tonight and with the long weekend should get them done by next Wednesday : )

Finishing Work...

Sooooo... After posting last week's WiP report, I decided to work on finishing up some projects! I have a few that are so close...

I began by finishing up the Java Hut Table Runner. It is the first project that I quilted using my maching. It wasn't perfect (but what really is) but I have to admit not bad for my first machine quilted project.

(I figured out how to orientate my photos!)

The second project I finished, by binding, this weekend was a foundation pieced Christmas Tree wall hanging:

I have 2 more wall hangings to bind and hope to get those done in the next couple of days : )

I took a quilt, for longarm quilting, to my local quilt shop, Heartsong Quilts, and finally caved in and purchased some Austrailing fabric that I have had my eye on for quite some time!

I have some ideas that are taking shape on what to do with this fabric : ) We'll just have to see what I can come up with.

Summer Sampler Series Blocks Done!

I finally finished the remaining 4 blocks of the series. I did a lot of sewing, then a lot of "unsewing," then more sewing : )

Way behind...

Ok, so the Summer Sampler Series' last block came out today, and I am (or was) 6 blocks behind. I really don't know how that happened... At one point I was caught up.

So may main goal is to finish the remaining 6 blocks by tomorrow night. I got a good head start tonight by completing 2 of them : )

I need a new project like I need a whole in my head!

So, while I was in Colorado Springs, I needed a fabric fix. I had a little bit of time and found a Joann's and my only intention was to "look." Then I came across some fabric with skulls. Nikolas, my oldest grandson, LOVES skulls, so I couldn't pass it up. Then of course I found some fabric to go with the skulls and now need to come up with a project for a little quilt for him. Now I am on the hunt : )

Finally back in my sewing room...

I spent last weekend in Colorado Springs for an all 80's class reunion. I had a great time. I got back home Sunday night and dove right back to work Monday morning. Sewing got put on the back burner for a while, but I did take some time to work on the quilted growth chart for grandsons Nikolas and Kaden.

Here are my pieced strips:

Ok, so I don't know how to rotate the photo, but this gives you an idea.

I then added the pieced strips to the cream colored fabric which will be used for the growth markings:

With my daughter's input, I altered the layout by adding a second cream strip and a third pieced strip. This way both boys can be incorporated in one piece and yet have their seperate space.

I also got the back pieced. I found enough of a green fabric in my stash to use for the backing. I have 24 strips left from the jelly roll that I used for the striped piecing that I will use for a pieced binding.

Caught up on the Summer Sampler Series

YAY!! I am now caught up on the Summer Sampler Series, at least until Monday when the next block is revealed.

Flower Garden Path

Here is the 4th block in the Summer Sampler Series, the Flower Garden Path.

I have to tell ya... This block took most of the afternoon to complete. A LOT of half square triangles!! But, I must admit, I think it turned out rather nicely : )

I have 4 blocks done so far. Hope to get caught up by piecing the remaining 2 for last week today. We'll see...

Excitement Came At Mail Time!

I was excited when I got the mail today. I put in an order with the Fat Quarter Shop last week for fabric for a growth chart I wanted to make for my 2 grandsons which I found on the Moda Bakeshop. Talking with my daughter, Jennifer, about the layout, we decided to go forward with the Watch Me Grow Chart by Vanessa Wilson (Crafty Gemini).

I ordered a Boy Medow Friends jelly roll by designer Deb Strain:

The fabrics are in colors boys like and contain bugs, frogs, and reptiles.

I look forward to getting started on this project : )

Star of Virginia

Ok... So one of the blogs I like to look at is doing a Summer Sampler Series. It looked rather interesting. I had a set of batiks that my mother-in-law brought me back from Bali, so I thought this would be a great project for those fabrics. Thanks Ginger!!!

It started on Monday, so I am 3 blocks behind already. There will be 12 blocks in total, which will finish 12". It shouldn't be too hard to catch up. I did the first block this evening, the Star of Virginia.

For the blocks I will use the Bali batiks and a white tone on tone that I had in my stash.

This should be a lot of fun : )

36-Patch Quilt Along

As if I don't have enough to do, I am participating in a quilt along. I have never done one, so this should be a fun experience. It will be a 36-patch block. This quilt along is hosted by Amanda Jean at Crazy Mom Quilts. We got the fabric requirements on Monday. I hope to make a 36 block square lap quilt. I spent time at lunch picking out fabrics. Each block contains 2 contrasting fabrics. I have on set of fabrics picked out and in the washer, now need to pick out the remaining fabrics and get them all ready for the next step, which we get on Monday.

Will post photos as soon as I get rolling : )

By last weekends end, I managed to get a total of 2 blocks done.

I am very, very pleased with the look I am getting. I have fabric picked out for my next 3 blocks. We'll see how they come together.

Block #1 Done!

I have the first block of the Miss South Dakota Crown Quilt done! I am so pleased with how it all turned out. It is paper pieced and each block is done in quarters to finish to a size of 12".

It's Been A While...

Wow! Looking back at the date of my last post, I noticed how long it has been since I have done any quilting! I have had guests since June 16, and have only now found time to do some piecing!

I started a new project today, "Queen's Crown." My friend Glenda and I decided to do a quilt that the Miss South Dakota Organization can use as a fundraiser. I will piece the top and Glenda will do the quilting, seeing as how she has a long arm quilter. She thought the "Queen's Crown" would be an appropriate pattern. I did some searching and found the pattern I wanted to use from eQuiltPatterns.com. I have been toying with the idea of doing a stained glass quilt block with my batiks and was happy to find this pattern.

Before the bulk of my company arrived 2 weeks ago, I washed and ironed all my batik fabrics. That took a fair share of my weekend! I also went to my local quilt shop, HeartSong Quilts and found fabric for my background and leading.

I will post photos once I have my first block all put together.

Quilt Top Done

I just done with the quilt top for my 2nd American Hero Quilt and I am very happy with how it turned out. I like this much better than the 1st one I sent last month.

I have started cutting fabric for a lap size quilt for Quilts For Kids. They provide comfort quilts to children with life-threatening illnesses and children of abuse. That is another organization I can really get behind.

The End Is In Sight...

This morning I made a large enough space on the floor so that I could lay my blocks out. I got the layout the way I wanted it and was ready to start putting it all together.

It became an all day poject to sew the 35 blocks together, but I got it done. Thankfully I have a tall husband, so I enlisted him to hold up the quilt top for me so I could get a photo.

It turned out much better than I had hoped that it would. Tomorrow I will add a couple borders the top will be done!

Making Progress...

Well, I am making progress on my American Hero's Quilt. I got all of the 9 Patch blocks done. I really tried to be random, but just couldn't do it... I had to have some order to the blocks.

I also got half of the Home of the Brave blocks done. These are the red ones (I still have the blue ones left to do).

For my design wall, I am using the door to the furnace room with a piece of batting tucked in over the top. Anything in a pinch : )

American Hero Quilt #2

I am knee deep on my second quilt for American Hero Quilts. It took me a while to find a pattern I wanted to use. Then I came across the "Home of the Brave" pattern and knew right away that was the one. Then while seaching quilt blogs, I came across a way to incorporate the Home of the Brave block with the 9 Patch block and loved it. Thanks to Sherrill at Quilting in My Sleep for the idea.

This quilt will have a total of 35 blocks. I got all the fabric cut and 4 blocks made today, so tomorrow I should get a great deal of sewing done : )

Stash Busting

While searching some of my favorite quilt blogs, I came across a great way to use "some" of my scraps. Thanks to Amanda at Crazy Mom Quilts for this great idea!! I just need to add a backing, batting and quilting. I will donate the quilt to a an organization in need.

I really need a design wall!! I had to clear enough space on the floor of my sewing room then had to stand on a bench to take a decent photo : )

American Hero Quilt

I have finally finished my quilt top for American Hero Quilts. It has given me a great deal of satisfication!

I used a blue backing fabric to finish it off...

Unfortunately, I didn't get it done in time for the mail today, but it is already to go to the post office on Tuesday : )

I do have an idea of what I will be doing for my second submission to American Hero Quilts, but first I am going to take some time to work on doing some machine quilting. I have not really done any of that before, but I am ready to give it a go!

My First American Heroes Quilt

After I found out about the American Heroes Quilt Project I knew I had to participate. Here is my first attempt at a quilt for this wonderful organization.

This is the main part of the quilt. I used all patriotic fabric that I had in my stash. I didn't make a dent, just a small ding : )

Here is a close up of the Rail Fence block I used for this quilt.

Before calling it quits last night, I got the first border placed on the quilt. I just love this fabric, but can't find it anywhere.

Tonight I plan to place the second border on the quilt and get the binding all sewed together. I washed the backing fabric last night, so will get that ironed and get everything all ready to be mailed.

I am already planning on what I will do for my second quilt for this fabulous project!
